Ed Trego, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. He was 73 years old.
Born on September 13, 1950, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Ed lived a life marked by love, faith, and service. As a teenager, he met Karen, and the two quickly fell deeply in love. They were married and spent 48 wonderful years together, building a life filled with joy, dedication, and mutual respect.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where his courage and commitment were evident throughout his more than 20-year career. Rising to the rank of Master Chief, he faced numerous dangers and narrowly escaped with his life on multiple occasions, a testament to his bravery and resolve. His service and sacrifice left a lasting impact on all who served alongside him.
A man of deep faith, Ed was an oblate of the Benedictines, dedicating himself to spiritual growth. He spent time in the monastery on spiritual retreats, where he earned his name, Joseph, as a brother and was granted the privilege of being buried there. His faith was a guiding force in his life, shaping the way he loved, lived, and served others.
Ed was a loving and dedicated father to his four children, Michele, Kristi, Joshua, and Jason, who will always remember him for his wisdom, kindness, and the lessons he imparted. His eight grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Susan came into Ed’s life towards the end of his Earthly journey. Their immediate love and connection came as a surprise to both of them, but was a source of constant joy for them. It was an incredible gift to find such unexpected love and happiness.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Trego; his daughters, Michele and Kristi; his sons Joshua and Jason; and his eight grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. He was also a dear friend to many, known for his generous spirit and warm heart.
Fair winds and following seas, Master Chief. We have the watch.
His family and friends take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.

Our condolences and sympathies are with you. Ed was a great friend and member of st Benedict church while living here. He and Karen were a beautiful couple and we miss them both. May Ed rest in peace.
My wife Gail and I met Ed after church in Alpharetta, GA as part of our weekly “breakfast club” … He was a wonderful friend who after moving to Florida still called us on our birthdays and anniversary! Karen had written these dates down and that was Ed‘s way of staying in touch and honoring her.
May he rest in peace. 🙏🏻
I met Ed in 1968-69 when he and I served together in the Navy, stationed in Pensacola. Our friendship continued and grew while stationed together in the Philippines. We have kept in touch through the years. It was a blessing to have known Karen, his first love, and also Susan, his new love.
It's comforting to know that every question Ed had has been answered by God.
My life is better for having known him.
It still seems like a terrible dream… that your physical body is no longer here with me…that I can no longer pick up the phone and hear your voice… or can no longer enjoy our random “I love you and hope you’re having a great day!” texts that we would often exchange. I miss you more than you could possibly know, Pops 😔Please give Mom lots of love for me…know that I think about you both so much but …I know you both already know that because you’re watching over me from heaven. I love you ❤️
