In loving remembrance of Lawrence Batt, a dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather. Lawrence passed away after a long battle with chronic medical issues on August 11, 2024. His loved ones were by his side. He fought so hard and for so many years purely out of his natural stubborn nature and his desire to be present for his family for as long as possible.Lawrence (Larry) was born in the Bronx, New York on September 2, 1937 to his loving parents Tilly Batt (Lipshitz) and David Batt. Larry had an older suster, Edna, whom he loved very much. Larry was a doting uncle to his nieces and nephew, Eileen, Richard and Lynn. Larry met his wife, Lorraine while working for the IRS in New York. Rumor has it that he would follow her down the street on multiple occasions until he finally mustered up the courage to ask her out. Luckily for Larry, there was an ongoing public transportation strike in the city, so offering Lorraine a ride home set in action his ultimate plan to marry this woman. It worked! They remained married for 57 years, until Lawrence’s passing. They had 3 beautiful daughters, Melanie, Stacy and Tammy. His daughters provided five feisty and loving granddaughters, Macey, Tessa, Emily, Olivia and Samantha. They were a source of great pride and happiness for Larry.
Growing up, Larry enjoyed the typical hobbies and past times of the day, including sports, with a special interest in baseball and track. He was a good student and went on to graduate from City College of New York, where he also earned a Master’s Degree in History. He started working for the IRS while in New York, but transferred to South Florida for a better job opportunity with the IRS as well as a better lifestyle for his growing family. He worked for the IRS for 37 years, gaining promotions and a close network of friends. Larry enjoyed taking long walks after work, however his main hobby and past time was cheering on his children at softball games, marching band competitions and various academic and military ceremonies. His other important past time was his constant worrying about his daughters, day and night . Even well into their adulthoods, Larry’s predictable departing words were “ be careful “ ( keep in mind this was even if one of his daughters was simply walking home next door!)
Larry Batt will be deeply missed by his widow Lorraine, his three daughters, three son-in-laws, and his five beautiful grand daughters ( and no, he never cared that he didn’t have a grandson). He loved his girls. Even though his later years found him mostly confined to his recliner in his beloved home office, his love and presence were felt far beyond his physical limitations.
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Batt Family.
