Mark Strickland

March 14, 2022

Mark Gene Strickland was born on January 19, 1977 in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Mark died on March 14, 2022 aged 45 years. He resided in Gainesville, Florida with his wife, Amy Booms and their many cats. He was known affectionately by his friends as “Marky Van Zant” because of the red top hat that he loved to wear, which led people to tell him that he looked like Ronnie Van Zant. Mark loved to play Dungeons and Dragons and even created his own custom materials for the game. He was an extremely kind and caring person who would do anything for his friends, and he often even helped strangers; Mark gave freely to those in need. Mark loved unconditionally, and put others before himself. He had the best sense of humor, and wanted to make people laugh. Mark was always laughing himself, and his good nature made it impossible to stay in a bad mood around him. Mark is survived by his father, Daryl Strickland, his brother, David Strickland, his aforementioned wife, Amy Booms, and his cats Nightshade, Grevy, Kelly, Samwise, Hazel, and Tom. Mark's mother, Barbara Strickland (Welo) passed away on July 1, 2020. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Haven Hospice https://beyourhaven.org/donate.
